A collage of 20+ photos taken during our shoot down in Mirayon in bukidnon.
We were doing a story on a DED and Figaro project promoting organic coffee farming... Since they are dealing in high altitude coffee most of the groups they are working with are indigenous tribes who live up in the mountains. On this shoot we went to a Talaandig community in Bukidnon in the foot hills of the Kitanglad mountain range.
Its a crazy mixture of emotions one gets when one is there, the place is so beautiful. Its this little community living on base of this mountain range. The air is so clean, you can look out for miles, you drink water straight from the spring, you pull out carrots from the ground and eat them, and the nights are spectacular, no electricity aside from the house we were staying in so the nights were totally clear, no city light glow.
The people are so simple, so friendly, and totally poor. Its sad for all the richness of the land up there the people live in such poverty... They are hard working people get up at 5 work till 5 in the fields and yet financially have nothing. Its the crazy thing the money all gets stuck and tucked away somewhere else... Would be nice if these people could actually get the compensation for the work they do (or even just say 50 percent would already change their lives so much). But anyways I don't want to get started, will save that for another post or thread or something...
Lets just leave it at ANG GANDA NG MINDANAO... (and I guess thats why inspite of everything the people there still keep on smiling)
     | i've seen them before! i've photographed them (randomly) when our van nearly broke down on the way up to kitanglad base station. didn't get to stay or speak to them tho, as was shooting a 'travel' story. did you get to visit waway ? lapit lang sila dyan.
Great stuff:

 | Yup we were able to drop by Waways on the way back up to Cagayan... We spent a night at his place... Jamming away under the full moon... |
 | Ey thanks... Will try and get more of them up...
Its pretty funny how I've traveled around the Philippines more in the last two years working for the German Development Service than I had in the 20+ years before... Its almost like before when you say Visayas, it would be Bora Cebu Bohol that would come to mind... All the major tourist traps we know about... But while working for these guys visiting small communities all around the Visayas and Mindanao one gets to see the true Philippines... How simple and Beautifull it really is... And how sad how little they get from Manila... And yet they all still smile and keep on living... Imagine if even just 25 percent of the budget and development they were supposed to get could actually reach them.. even just that would be such a big help for them... |
 | Ye, mindanao! sama mo si pads next time and drop by our house in cdo, then lets dream up a project for my countrymen |

 | The problem with farmers is that they have no control over the price of their produce. So, it's the middle men who make more money out of farmer's produce. I am not sure if there's possible solution to this. |
